Most of my images are inspired by a place in my mind or a physical location where I have been fortunate to visit.   Painting or sketching for me is an instrument that I use to remember or re-generate the energy that I feel when surrounded by an unfamiliar setting.

Like most artists I tend to do a lot of my work after midnight. There is something about this quiet space that allows me to think out loud.

When starting a piece of work I like to begin sketching with colored pencil. This helps form the correct shapes and shadows that I am looking for. Pencil, charcoal, graphite, and paint are tools that, from an early age, I have been very comfortable with.

Everything has a beginning; my work begins with a thought, vision, or an ideal of what I see in my cotemporary world. Part of the process of building my statement is to go from a sketch to a larger canvas. Before I begin to paint, I’ll draw a quick outline on my 300-pound cotton rag. I prefer to work with acrylic paints because of its flexibility. I can water it down and use it like watercolor or load it up and move it around my canvas like oil paint. I always mix my own shades of black and tan, creating a palette of muted colors that are full of rhythm and soul. The body of work you see before you is my expression of a beautiful people in so many places.

As an artist, a great reward in life is to know that I can create and re-create with my own hands. Marketing my “Contemporary Urban Images” has been the best way for me as an artist, father, mentor, and business owner, to produce a positive resource, which I believe to be a valuable contribution to the community.
